I use the term lightbox as a reference to a special category of works of art that occupy a large portion of my artistic endeavor. A lightbox is an artwork created through a painting or construction process that involves the interaction of light with pigments, inks and various optically generative materials. In the final work, light from an embedded light source blends with the elements of the composition to produce a vibrant luminous artifact. It can be a painting, an image, an object or a construction. Light emission extends the iconic space of the work, further engaging the spectator and creates a radiating aura that adds a subtle new dimension to the surrounding space.
